Hiring: good construction, bad manufacturing and services

The industry plans around 150 thousand hires in October (+1,7% compared to last year) and 365 thousand for the October-December quarter (-1,4% on the year). The manufacturing sector is driving demand construction with 56 thousand new contracts scheduled in the month and 132 thousand in the quarter (+6,3% and +1,1% compared to the same period of 2022). The sectors manufacturing they show, however, a slight decline in the month (-0,9% compared to last year) which appears destined to worsen in the quarter (-2,8% compared to a year ago).

The slowdown of the services which plan a total of 322 thousand hires in the month (-2,5% compared to October 2022) and 839 thousand in the quarter (-1,3% compared to the 2022 quarter). Forecasts above all are down education e healthcare among services to people (-12,5% ​​compared to October 2022 and -11,9% in the October – December quarter). The businesses of business they report, however, a growing demand with 66 thousand hirings in October (+1,8% compared to 12 months ago) and 177 thousand hirings in the October-December quarter (+1,5% compared to the same period in 2022).

During the month, the decline affected businesses of all sizes, with greater intensity in micro and medium-sized businesses (-1,6% and -2,6% respectively), with the exception of those with over 250 employees (+1,1%) .

Work: fixed-term contracts are the driving force

I fixed-term contracts represent 54% of scheduled revenue, followed by those a time undetermined (99 thousand units, 21%), those on temporary contracts (51 thousand, 10,7%), other contracts not employed (21 thousand, 4,4%), apprenticeship contracts (25 thousand; 5,4%), other employee contracts (13 thousand; 2,9%) and collaboration contracts (7 thousand; 1,6%).

For 51% of companies it is difficult to find staff

51% of businesses can't find staff: especially the skilled workers (66,3%) and the professions specifications and those skilled in commercial activities (53%). Among the former there is a lack of specialized workers involved in finishing constructions (around 76% are difficult to find), casters, welders, tinsmiths, boilermakers, metal carpentry assemblers (71,8%). There is also a lack of workers in catering activities (64,6%) and technicians in the engineering field (64,1%).

Also increasing demand for immigrant workers with 99 thousand entries scheduled in the month (+11 thousand compared to the same period in 2022), equal to 21% of the total contracts.

At a territorial level they are the companies of the distribution South and Islands (with 119 thousand hirings in October) to record negative data compared to a year ago (-8 thousand), while the forecasts for the month are still positive for Northwest (147 miles), northeast (108 thousand) and Centro (98mila).
