Work, contracts growing in June

In an economic scenario characterized by numerous elements of uncertainty, especially for the industrial sectors most exposed to international markets, operators nonetheless expect the activation of over 473,5 thousand employment contracts, recording an increase compared to May of around 44 thousand unit. The tourism sector (+30% in one month) is driving the demand for recruitment, also thanks to the seasonal contracts to be activated for the summer period, and trade (+11,8%). Planned revenues from these two sectors exceed 190 units, which rise to 427 if we consider the entire June-August quarter.

Overall, however, compared to the month of June last year, the revenue forecast suffers a drop of about seven percentage points, as a result of a drop in the activation of contracts both in the service sector and in the industrial sectors. The latter, in particular, appear lackluster, highlighting negative decreases in revenues compared to both last May and June 2018 (-9,6% and -7,7% respectively). In this context, the decline recorded in some of the main export-oriented sectors is significant: in particular for the food industry, there are 3.200 contracts expected, less than a year ago, while from a cyclical point of view, the fashion and mechatronics sectors record a decrease forecast of around 2.600 entries between May and June 2019.

The monthly bulletin of the Excelsior information system, created by Unioncamere and Anpal, also signals a further growth in the number of hiring companies, which amounted to over 243,7 thousand units in June, the highest value for the entire period considered (June 2018-June 2019). More than 30% of the expected income this month will concern young people up to 29 years of age; at the sectoral level, this incidence will assume importance above all in the IT and telecommunications sectors (41% of revenues), in commerce (40%) and in advanced business services (40%), values which underline a consistent job placement opportunity for young people.

Among the most requested professions in the month of June, considering the importance of demand from the tourism sector in the period in question, it is not surprising to find the significant presence of catering workers which exceed 100 activations (215,8 thousand in the June-August quarter).

Finally, on the territory it is observed how it is Southern Italy is the area that forecasts the highest number of contracts for June, with over 136 thousand activations; followed by the North-West with over 124 thousand admissions and then the North-East (117,1 thousand) and the Center (95,8 thousand).
