Work: blacksmiths and welders among the hardest to find in August

Blacksmiths, welders, fitters, artisan mechanics, metalworking machine workers: these are some of the most difficult specialized figures to find from companies on the market in August. A mismatch that can jeopardize the production of important sectors of Made in Italy manufacturing. A difficulty that adds up to the now persistent complexity of the search for highly specialized professional profiles and engineering and IT technicians as well as beauticians and, also due to seasonality, catering workers. In all these cases, companies expect to find significantly higher procurement difficulties (with peaks even well above 40%) compared to the average which stands at 24% of the total 229 entries expected for this month.

This is what emerges from the Bulletin of Excelsior information system, realized by Unioncamere in collaboration with ANPAL, based on forecasted revenues of enterprises with employees in industry and services between August and October 2018.

The share of companies that planned hirings grew by more than one percentage point compared to August a year ago (10,7% against 9,5%) and, among these, only the smallest ones recorded increases in the entry rate (i.e. of the ratio between the number of expected admissions and company employees) which goes from 2,3% last year to 2,7% this year.

From a trend point of view (i.e. compared to the same period of 2017) the opportunities to find work are also on the rise in August: 229 planned entries, + 6,5% compared to the same month of 2017. It is above all the South, thanks the good performance of activities related to tourism, to increase the demand for work (+12,2%), followed by the North East (+8,0%) and North West (+6,6%). On the other hand, the demand in Central Italy (-3,3%) went against the trend.

Compared to the month of July 2018, therefore from an economic point of view, naturally the companies that hire and the total revenue expected in the month of August decrease for reasons related to seasonality. More than one job out of two will be on a fixed-term basis, with the highest peaks in Sardinia (67%), Trentino Alto Adige (65%) and Liguria (60%). While 21% of employment contracts will be open-ended.

And the service sector to expect a much higher number of personnel searches for August, which could give rise to 166 contracts (72% of the total) of which almost 58 in the business services sector and around 44 in tourism.
