In June, according to Istat, the employment rate in Italy rose to 60,1%, the highest value since 1977. The change over the month is positive by 0,4%, equal to 86 thousand units. After the decline recorded in May, however, the recovery is linked to the growth of permanent employees, which once again exceed 23 million. Compared to June 2021, the increase amounts to over 400 thousand employed (+1,8%) and is again determined by employees, who in June 2022 reached 18,1 million, also in this case the highest value since 1977 , first year of the historical series.
Unemployment rate down to 8,1%, but rises to 23,1% among young people
As for the unemployment rate, stopped at 8,1% in June, substantially stable over the month (-0,2%) and down by 1,3 percentage points over the year. Among young people (15-24 years) however, the jobless rate recorded a significant increase over the month (+1,7%), to 23,1%. On an annual basis, however, the change is negative by 6,2%. Among the other age groups, the unemployment rate for 25-34 year olds fell by 0,5 points on a month and by 2,7 points on a year, to 11,1%.
Job seekers and inactive in June
Furthermore, compared to June 2021, the number of job seekers decreased (-13,7%, equal to -321 thousand units) and the number of inactive people between the ages of 15 and 64 (-3%, equal to - 400 thousand).
Employment in the second quarter
If we compare the second quarter of 2022 with the first, there is an increase in the level of employment equal to 0,4%, for a total of 90 thousand more employed, which is associated with the decrease in job seekers (-3,8 .81%, equal to -0,5 thousand units) and inactive (-61%, -XNUMX thousand units).
