Employment: the demand for graduates is growing, but companies find it difficult to select

Keep growing there application for graduates and companies they struggle to select. According to Annual Bulletin 2022 of the Excelsior information system, realized by Unioncamere e Anpal, request for graduate staff was 783 thousand units, 15% of the total contracts offered by companies (+ 1,4% compared to 2021), but 47% of these struggled to find the required profiles. Companies sometimes even took 4-5 months to research. The difficulty of companies finding graduates is even higher than the already high average figure referring to all planned entries.

Failure to match supply and demand

I'm almost two million hires in 2022 for which companies have found difficulties, about 600 thousand more than last year, but almost double (1 million) of what was highlighted before the pandemic.

“Il mismatch between supply and demand it is one of the great bottlenecks of the Italian labor market. This is also why we launched the excelsiorienta platform, with the aim of helping students to know ed orient yourself better in world of work, in order to choose the most suitable course of study for one's aptitudes and the needs of companies" underlined the president of Unioncamere, Andrew Priest.

The most requested and hard to find titles

In the private sector the search for graduate staff: 1,5 million those wanted in 2022, (29,7% compared to 32,5% in 2021). The difficulty of finding, for graduates, stands at 40%. Drops the intake of Its graduates, which in 2022 reached almost 52 thousand units (1%), with a difficulty in finding more than half of the revenue: 56%. THE most popular diplomas I am the one with administrative, finance and marketing specialization, the one in tourism, food and wine and hospitality, and the one in mechanics, mechatronics, and energy.

The case is different for the professional qualifications and the profiles for which no qualification is required. In fact, many companies have declared that they are looking for profiles who have only attended compulsory schooling, as they could not find the specific professional qualification and with an adequate wealth of experience. There are about 36% of the requests (1 million and 900 thousand units) programmed for a difficulty of finding 43%. THE most wanted profiles they are those in catering (256 thousand), mechanics (164 thousand), construction (77 thousand), agri-food processing (70 thousand) and that relating to sales services (58 thousand).

I more difficult titles to be found were those in the paramedical health field (with a finding difficulty of 65%), graduates in electronic and information engineering (61%) and those in mathematics, physics and information technology (60%), graduates in electronics and electrical engineering (60%) and those in
mechanics, mechatronics and energy (56%), qualified electrical specialists (57%).

Il most requested title it was the one with an economic focus with 207 entries expected in 2022. The most sought after degrees are: teaching and training (116 entries), health and paramedical (76), civil engineering and architecture (57) and mathematical, physical and IT (54 thousand).
