Employment: 531 hires from companies expected in September, but 48% cannot find the staff they are looking for

Le Italian companies plan to hire 531 thousand people a September, 7 thousand more than a year ago. Between September and November, expected hirings slightly exceeded 1,4 million, an increase of 1,9% compared to the same period of 2022. At the same time, the finding difficulty involving 48% of companies' planned hiring, up 5% from a year ago. For many technical-engineering figures and skilled workers, it reaches quotas between 60% and 70%. This is what emerges from Bulletin of the Excelsior information system, realized by Unioncamere with Anpal.

To take on businesses large and small

It's big business (with over 250 employees) and small businesses (10-49 employees) to fully cover the overall increase compared to 2022 in planned hiring (respectively, with +4,4 thousand and +4,3 thousand in the month and +11 thousand and +12 thousand in the quarter). While the businesses of lower size (1-9 employees) expect a drop in hiring for September (-3 thousand).

The compartments

The compartment manufacturing overall, it plans 99 admissions in September 2023 (similar figure compared to a year ago) and 275 admissions in the quarter (-0,2%). Among the main manufacturing sectors, the forecasts of the mechatronics with 25 thousand contracts in September and 69,5 thousand in the quarter and from metallurgy (20 thousand and 55 thousand, respectively). The more spaced out food industries (13 thousand and almost 40 thousand) and those of fashion (11 thousand and 33 thousand).

Companies in difficulty: "lack of candidates"

According to the companies, the main factor is the "lack of candidates" (31,7%), followed by "inadequate preparation" (12%). However, the national and overall data aggregates very different situations. The most “untraceable” professional figures are the skilled workers (64,2% share of income difficult to find), i conductors of fixed and mobile systems (53,2%) not technical professions (49,5%). In particular, there is a lack of tool makers, wood treatment workers and craftsmen (74,1% and a peak of 87,7% in the North West), specialized workers involved in finishing construction (73,6%, with a maximum in the North East by 80,9%), artisanal mechanics, fitters, repairers, maintenance workers of fixed and mobile machines (73,1%, to 76,7% in the North West) and blacksmiths and tool builders (72%, but up to 81,5% in the Centre).

They are hard to find too runners of the management of the production processes of goods and services (67,5%, which reaches 74,5% in the central regions), technicians in the engineering field (64,2%, with a maximum of 66,5% in the North East) , health technicians (58,9%, to 65,6% in the Centre) and commercial distribution technicians.
