Work: 6 out of 10 young people need a degree or diploma

In the next 5 years the labor market will change and 6 out of 10 new employees will need to have a degree or diploma. Furthermore, 35% of the employment requirement will concern technical and highly specialized professions. The numbers emerge from Excelsior reports of Unioncamere and Anpal on employment needs 2019-2023.

According to the analysis - carried out for the Job&Orienta 2019 event, scheduled from 28 November to 30 November in Verona - by the end of the five-year period, Italian companies and the public administration will need 3-3,2 million new jobs.

Most of these needs (80%, or 2,6 million places) will be driven by natural turnover on the labor market, while the rest (352-535 units) will be produced by economic growth, which will remain very limited. In fact, between now and 2023, Unioncamere's estimates speak of a change in GDP between +0,6% and +0,9% on an annual average.

Obviously, not all sectors they will absorb the same number of seats. The greatest opportunities will be for graduates from the medical-health, economics, engineering, legal and statistical branches and for graduates in administration-marketing, construction, electronics and electrical engineering.

"Choosing a course of study is one of the most important moments in the lives of our young people - underlines the president of Unioncamere, Carlo Sangalli - Providing children and families with the most up-to-date information on labor market trends and on the professions that offer the better opportunities for the future is crucial. On this front, the Chambers of Commerce are very committed, with the aim of reducing the misalignment between labor supply and demand as much as possible”.
