Lagarde: "Italy beacon of Europe"

Stop playing low, it's time to seriously look to the future. For the director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, there are no doubts: Italy, with the reforms of the Monti government, has taken the right path and could also be the new example for the whole Eurozone.

Last night Lagarde advised international investors to "avoid betting downwards on Italy". According to the director of the Washington-based institute, thanks to Mario Monti's structural reforms "Italy could really become the light in the tunnel of the Eurozone", he added.

Lagarde's references were aimed at measures that enhance competition on the market for products and services (decree on liberalisations), those on the labor market and budget adjustments. “All of this is extremely positive and seen as such by the markets,” he concluded.
