Lagarde in Brazil looking for support

Christine Lagarde is now in full «election campaign». She is expected today in Brazil where she will defend her candidacy for the post of director general of the International Monetary Fund, made official by the current French economy minister last Wednesday.

"I have chosen to visit some emerging countries - underlined Lagarde - which are now expressing concerns and frustrations". Indeed, some resistance to her candidacy is coming from this front. After Brazil, the French minister should move to China, some African countries, India and perhaps even the Middle East.

But the biggest obstacles that the lady is facing are rather internal and concern the Bernard Tapie affair. The controversial billionaire received 2008 million euros in compensation in 240 in an old lawsuit relating to his takeover of Adidas, financed by Crédit Lyonnais. The decision had been made by a private arbitration court. And the green light for this procedure would have come from Lagarde. On June 10th, the French Court of Justice will decide whether to open an investigation against Lagarde. Who, meanwhile, over the weekend, defined this eventuality as "without legal basis".
