The Bocconian economist Andrea Beltratti, chairman of the management board of Intesasanpaolo, will lead the PattiChiari banking consortium for the next three years, which will elect him today as chairman. The ABI appointed him yesterday after the resignation of Filippo Cavazzuti.
Beltratti will have the difficult task of rethinking the mission of the banking consortium for transparency and financial education but he will find himself faced with the problems that had led Cavazzuti to leave and that is mainly independence from the banks themselves. It is a question of understanding whether the banks, and above all the small ones that express the current president of ABI Antonio Patuelli, consider PattiChiari and therefore banking transparency an intelligent choice to improve the reputation of the banks themselves in the eyes of supervisory and control institutions and consumers or an expensive and unnecessary burden.
Is advertising the different offers and different costs of banks in terms of current accounts, mortgages and financial services to increase transparency and healthy competition between banks considered a useful choice or not? This is the crucial point from which the Beltratti presidency begins.
