Is the Ztl right or left? Madrid cancels it

Is the Ztl right or left? Madrid cancels it

Rome model or Madrid model? But above all, left model or right model? If you ask the newly elected mayor of the Spanish capital, José Luis Martinez Almeida, expression of a majority made up of Partido Popular and Vox (the latter far-right force) he could answer that the "new demoplutocratic communists are hiding in the shadow of the Dome Italians".

The reason is obvious: sanctions came into force in Rome on 1 July against those who, including scooter owners, try to enter the so-called trident. On the same date Madrid has instead canceled the fines. equal to 90 euros, to those who violate the Ztl of the center. Since yesterday, streets such as Gran Via or Calle Mayor are once again passable by car without risking anything. Technically the Ztl would still exist, but the penalties for those who do not respect it have evaporated by mixing with the city's smog. A controversial decision that sparked the protests of thousands and thousands of Madrileños, took to the streets to demand that the historic center of the city be closed to traffic.

"Blessed are they who have nothing to do during the day - commented the mayor on radio Cadena Sera - these left-wing citizens want to win a battle on the street that they lost at the polls”. The demonstrators, therefore, would only be "citizens of the left" frustrated by the electoral defeat.

Who knows how the Romans of the right, left or pentastellati will react – the entry into force of the fines for those who enter the new limited traffic area of the Trident. A measure strongly sponsored by the Raggi junta, but strongly criticized by traders and exhibitors, not so much because it is considered a "leftist decision" but because with buses and subways in fits and starts (Republic and Spain have been reopened, but Barberini is still closed), the historic center of Rome risks remaining off limits for tourists and residents.

Rome capital city

However, the die has now been cast: after a month of "experimentation" and several postponements", the video cameras of the 1 electronic gates have been switched on since 6 July positioned in via di Ripetta (crossing with via dell'Oca), via dei Pontefici (crossing piazza Augusto Imperatore), via Condotti (crossing wide Goldoni), via di Propaganda (crossing via Capo le Case), via di San Sebastianello, (crossing viale Trinità dei Monti), via del Gambero (crossing via delle Convertite). All the area will be closed to traffic from 6.30 to 19.00 from Monday to Friday and from 10.00 to 19.00 on Saturday. Those who violate the rules will face a minimum fine of 80 euros. Whether it's right or left.
