The zero balance F24 trap. Here's how to get away with it

Paying taxes online? Good idea. With some catch. Let's do things right by activating our Tax Drawer.

The zero balance F24 trap. Here's how to get away with it

Taxes aren't just painful. They are also complicated. Often to no avail, albeit with some labile justification. But that exposes us to additional burdens and even to some traps. It has been happening for four years with payments F 24 with zero balance, those that we still have to present even if the sum between the amount due and the amount we can subtract thanks to the credits in our favor allows us to cancel the amount due.

The problem? Until 2014 the F 24 with zero balance it could be formalized through the usual channels dedicated to the payment of taxes: among them the post office, the bank counter or perhaps the increasingly widespread home banking. In 2014 the Financial Administration said enough: from end of the year the F 24s with zero balance could have been done pay only through authorized intermediaries (accountants, Caf and so on) or even directly, but only with the telematic services made available by the Revenue Agency, upon registration.

THEInland Revenue ha justified his in detail decision only in June 2015 with a response from the Government to a question to the Chamber of Deputies asking for an about-face. No way. The answer was lapidary. The constraint had been introduced, and had to remain, for two reasons: for “allows for more effective control against fraudulent phenomena" e for guarantee to the financial administration “non-negligible savings” as "since the intermediation of banks and post offices is not envisaged, the Revenue Agency does not have to pay these subjects the fee for receiving and reporting".

That's it. For the F24 with zero balance, no mail, no bank, no home banking. The obligatory path passes through the intermediary or through the direct connection to our electronic "tax drawer". Too bad that up until the end of 2016 those who tried were forced to slalom between really complicated procedures, with the obligation to download an application program to install on their PC to prepare for the task, validate it and then send it. Of the last year things got a little less difficult, with the possibility to perform in the slalom directly online through the F 24 Web procedure. Is everything easy? Not at all. Is it possible to get by without resorting to the help, perhaps onerous, of an expert? Yes, perhaps by following a guided procedure and some operational advice, with the comfort of some video tutorials that we have selected from those freely available on YouTube.

HERE IS THE STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURE (FIND THE VIDEO TUTORIALS AHEAD):

  • Click on: www.agenziaentrate.gov.it;

  • enter your personal credentials: tax code, password and Pin;
  • log in to desk;
  • select services to pay – > F24 web;
  • choose New standard F24 model;
  • The system automatically reports the tax code -> confirm;
  • Indicate a date after today for the payment;
  • start the compilation by copying the fields of the paper form provided by the accountant or prepared by yourself into the web form;
  • Confirmation always amounts with ok and go back to the main section to eventually fill in the other fields (credits, debits, sections, etc.);
  • Back to summary;
  • Go over all the fields filled in and check that they are filled in correctly;
  • Verify that the final balance is correct;
  • Click on print F24;
  • Validate the F24;
  • Enter the personal IBAN details in the dedicated field and press Ok to confirm the entire operation.

That's it.
