Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia. A tsunami of clouds hangs over the beach and threatens unsuspecting sunbathers. Rohan Kelly, Australian photographer of the Daily Telegraph, manages to seize the moment, taking a very powerful photo on November 16 that plays on the contrast between the horizon and the sand. The image won first prize in the "Nature" category of the World Press Photo 2016.
The image of the year is instead the one taken on August 28, 2015 by the independent Australian reporter Warren Richardson. In the photo, a man passes under the barbed wire that separates the border between Hungary and Serbia near the town of Röszke. Taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, at high sensitivity (6400 ISO) and with a slow shutter speed (1/5 seconds), the photograph is called "Hope for a new life".
