Van Rompuy's promise: "We will do everything to avoid Greece's default"

"We will do everything to avoid default" of Greece. This was assured by the president of the EU Council, Herman Van Rompuy in a press conference before the start of the G8 summit in Deauville. "We are not here to negotiate" on the Greek crisis, he specified. “The summit will talk about the global economy and the Eurozone, but – Van Rompuy explained – we are not here to work out solutions for Greece or to negotiate anything, or even to take lessons. We will explain what is happening – continued the president of the European council – and we will answer the questions that will be raised. We will do everything to ensure that there is no default or a 'credit event' and to maintain the financial stability of the Eurozone” Van Rompuy said again, saying he was “confident” about the possibility that the Athens government will take “all measures and do all the reforms needed to meet the budgetary targets”
