La market research company IDC he said that for the first time this year, the production of smartphones will surpass that of older generation mobile phones. This is a game changer that will allow access to computers and the Internet to millions of people.
I cell phone manufacturers shipped 216 million smartphones worldwide in the first three months of the year in 2013 compared to 189 million "dumb" phones. The share of the smartphone market would now be equal to 51,6 percent. This overtaking is nothing new in the United States where smartphones became the first choice of consumers in 2011. The global change has now been made possible by consumer choices in developing countries such as China, India and Indonesia. The evolution in the use of telephones from objects that are simply used to call or send text messages to advanced operating systems has given wings to the mobile phone industry. The Finnish Nokia which was unable to take full advantage of the situation, as the world's leading mobile phone manufacturer, had to hand over the scepter to the South Korean Samsung.
