Plastic is against the environment: the exhibition of photographers Bernucci and Rombi at Busto Garolfo on the outskirts of Milan

The help coming from artists to the battle for the climate is the measure of how engaging the calls to mobilize are. Creativity doesn't stop in front of the disasters that society causes on the environment. “ There are so many ways to talk about what we care about and try to involve other people ” they say Elena Bernucci e John Rombi, two Italian photographers of different generations, but sensitive to environmental issues. Together they built a project on theinvasion of plastic in the world. Elena Bernucci, very young, inherited the passion for photography from her father. In her work she tries to convey to others what surrounds us which can be beautiful. Giovanni Rombi, born in 1959, graduated from the Institute of Photography and says of his photos that they are nothing more than «my gaze on reality, on everything that surrounds me and fascinates me».

He shows it as an invitation “to do something"

On Saturday 1st April together they inaugurate the exhibition in Busto Garolfo, near Milan “Plastic Project”. There are already other stages on the calendar. A story in pictures on a worrying theme for the evil that i unrecovered plastic waste they are provoking on land and at sea. Each artist expresses himself with the tools that are most congenial to him, but photography is the art form that has the most hold on those who attend exhibitions. Shooting or preparing a scene conveys reality for what it is. And when they focus the limits of uncontrolled development of modern societies (as in this case) the powers and political hierarchies that have brought us to the edge of a precipice are questioned. It is significant that alongside the two photographers we find financial institutions such as the Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Busto Garolfo e Buguggiate and CCR Insieme Mutua. They are the ones who allowed the exhibition to be set up. In the headquarters of the JRC there will be an artistic story conceived to stir consciences. Bernucci and Rombi are not the first to ask themselves this problem, but they got the idea from their introspection which then coincides with the shot that animates the youth movements for the planet: why don't we do something? They started from a chat from 2021. “We were commenting on how plastic is everywhere in our lives and at one point we said to ourselves: why not do something to give life to this thought? ” they tell. "Our passion is photography and it is the tool with which we try to convey what we feel and what we would like to communicate with our images".

The image and the object

The project aims to create a contrast between an attractive image and the gravity of its object with the hope of raising awareness of the responsible use of plastic, a material that is an integral part of our lives. Plastic can and must be recovered without excessive efforts because the territories must be taken care of by people and by them institutions locals. The show will be open until 18 April, then it will travel and for the sponsors it is a source of pride to increase the importance of a local bank - founded by militant Catholics at the end of the 1800s - which is not only a credit institution close to families and businesses, but also an engine of culture, he said Robert Scazzosi President of the CCB. In the same way as the two artists also the President of the JRC, Maria Carla Ceriotti he says that “the exhibition aims to stimulate concrete gestures that can make a difference”. The medium of photography is powerful, people's sensitivity must grow.
