The Monti maneuver is law

The head of state, Giorgio Napolitano, signed the text of the economic maneuver for the consolidation of public finances in record time. The budget, which aims to eliminate the Italian deficit in 2014, became law just fifteen minutes after the definitive parliamentary go-ahead from Montecitorio. This closes a process that lasted just four days: the maneuver arrived in the Senate committee last Tuesday; yesterday the Government received the trust in Palazzo Madama and today, in the early hours of the afternoon, it did the same in the Chamber.
