Lombardy is the realm of medium-sized enterprises

Lombardy firmly maintains the leadership of medium-sized industrial enterprises, i.e. those neither large nor small but included in the range of independent and often family-owned manufacturing companies that have between 50 and 499 employees and an annual turnover between 16 and 355 million euros . Lombardy has 1.042, equal to 31,3% of the total of medium-sized enterprises. This is what emerged from the recent survey of medium-sized enterprises conducted by Mediobanca and Uniocamere and now in its fifteenth edition.

In second place for the number of medium-sized manufacturing enterprises, behind Lombardy, is Veneto, which has 597, equal to 17,9%. Followed by Emilia-Romagna (489), Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta (302) and Tuscany (209).

Thanks to the results of Lombardy, Piedmont-Valle d'Aosta and Liguria (36), the North West exceeds the North East: 1.380 medium-sized industrial enterprises against 1.261 and, as a percentage, 41,5% against 37,8%. The total of medium-sized Italian manufacturing enterprises in 2014 was 3.334 units.

Medium-sized industrial companies, in addition to being the most dynamic segment of the production system, are the flagship of Made in Italy with their prevalent presence in the mechanical and automotive, food, household and personal products sectors.
