Very refined collection at auction in Paris at Sotheby's, a true gallery of luxury and modernity passing through the geometric lines of Art Deco.

The Henri Chwast Collection to be auctioned in Paris

On October 20, Sotheby's in Paris will present a collection built with great care over more than twenty years by Henri Chwast. The works, chosen for their exceptional quality, make up a perfectly coherent whole. In 1970, Henri Chwast began collecting works from the XNUMXs period. With patience and meticulousness, he acquired iconic works by the most important artists of the Art Deco, namely Jean Dunand, Eileen Gray, Clément Rousseau and Pierre Chareau.

This connoisseur with a highly “specialized” taste has based his collection on a small number of works, focusing on innovative and unique pieces. The selection, made by the demanding eye of Henri Chwast is a perfect example of explorations on the twenties: a mix of luxury and modernity.

This collection is surprising for the quality of each work and also offers an overview of the founding figures of Art Deco.

Among the most influential artists, the name of Eileen Gray stands out, one of the most important designers of the XNUMXth century.

And finally, the pieces in the collection passed through the hands of the greatest supporters of the ART Deco movement: the Galerie du Luxembourg Félix Marcilhac, Alain Lesieutre, Maria de Beyrie, Bob and Cheska Vallois and Karl Lagerfeld.
