Sensitive dependence on initial conditions by Vincenzo Frattini

Sensitive dependence on initial conditions by Vincenzo Frattini

The exhibition, curated by Valeria D'Ambrosio, promoted and organized by the Friends of Gabriele Mattera, and in collaboration with the Giovanni Bonelli Gallery, presents seventeen wall-mounted works, sculptures, installations and videos, which trace the evolution of the last ten years of the artist's practice from Salerno.

The exhibition draws inspiration from the scientific theory of chaos by reinterpreting, from an aesthetic and technical point of view, the complex mechanisms that govern natural laws in an attempt to trace the flow of human life and to provide a direct experience of reality, through the relationship sensible between form and color.

The conceptual pivot is the notion of “Dependence sensitive to initial conditions” theorized by the meteorologist Edward Lorenz, i.e. the concept according to which a minimum movement of air molecules in a given place can cause, at a distance of time and space, an event of much greater range. Better known as The Butterfly Effect, this theory is based on a careful study of complex and apparently chaotic systems which has led to the definition of a new and positive point of view on chaos, understood as maximum information, as the source and presence of everything, rather than as an absence of order.

And it is from this point of view that the exhibition aspires to reinterpret the theory of chaos through the visual arts, through an anthological approach to Frattini's production. The installation, which for the first time goes beyond the traditional boundaries of the Church of the Immaculate Conception to expand towards less canonical but equally suggestive places of the Castle, sees a succession of works in a variegated game of suspensions that return a global but diversified vision of the practice of 'artist.

If the space of the deconsecrated church is, in fact, a synthesis of his entire production, the Cimitero delle Clarisse, the courtyards, the glimpses of the sea and even the air vents of the Castle progressively present themselves as a natural scenography in which to attempt to define an artistic paradigm of that orderly disorder that is life.
