The ranking of the 10 banks that have disbursed the most to the US

Which banks have disbursed the most money to the US authorities? Reuters is thinking of answering this question with a graph that clarifies who paid, why, how much, when and how many times. At the top of the list is JP Morgan which in 2013 paid 13.000 million dollars for having overstated mortgages then sold to some investors.

The ranking of the 10 banks that have disbursed the most to the US

Reuter has compiled a ranking of the most fined banks in America, whose authorities collected a whopping 38.880 million dollars between 2012 and the beginning of 2014. JP Morgan tops the list, which paid out 13.000 million last year dollars to end investigations into overvalued mortgages he had sold to some investors. Probably such a fine affected the accounts for the second quarter of 2014 just published by the bank which still records losses, even if lower than expected.

Silver medal for the French bank Bnp Paribas guilty of not respecting the embargo in force against Sudan, Cuba and Iran. During the first months of 2014, the bank in fact carried out financial transactions in the US territory on behalf of Sudanese citizens and other nationalities with precedents in violations of human rights, support for terrorist groups and high security issues.

In third place is Citigroup with its 7.000 million dollars paid just in recent days. The accusation against the American credit bank is serious and the top management of the credit institute has preferred to honor the imposing fine. Citi would in fact have played a key role in the proliferation of the 2008 crisis, having sold poisonous financial products as healthy.

Just below the podium is Credit Suisse, which has just disbursed 2.500 million dollars, accused of facilitating American taxpayers in tax evasion. 1.920 million, on the other hand, is the amount of the fine imposed on HSBC for violating certain rules on money laundering. Manipulation of the Libor rate is instead the charge that cost UBS 1.530 million and Rabobank 1.070 between 2012 and 2013.

Last year's “Whale of London” scandal cost JP Morgan eighth place, which returns to the standings with a $1.020 million fine. Ninth place for Ddeutsche bank, with a payment of 985 million dollars for the accusation of manipulating some exchange rates at the end of 2013. Finally, Ubs returns to the rankings which also occupies the last place in the classification with the further accusation of having overstated and then sold some mortgages.
