The ECB freezes rates but does not move the markets

Draghi left interest rates unchanged as did the Bank of England. The president of the Eurotower reiterated that the shield is ready and that now the ball passes to the governments that have to apply for aid, specifying that the conditions need not necessarily be punitive. But he also recalled the high uncertainty of the economy, which will remain weak for the next few months. On the other side of the Atlantic, the US data on unemployment benefits turned out to be only slightly better than expected: +4 units in the week ending September 29 at 367 below expectations by 370. Enough to help Wall Street open in slight positive territory as the Dow Jones is now up 0,26% and the Nasdaq up 0,01%.

But in Europe the stock exchanges remain uncertain and contrasted: Milan fluctuates around parity and is now up by 0,15%, Frankfurt -0,25%, Paris -0,17%, London -0,08%.

The lists also reflect the uncertainty regarding Spain's request for financial aid and the outcome of today's auction: the Treasury of Madrid has sold two, three and five-year government bonds on the market for a total maximum amount of 3,99 billion, against a target of 4 billion with rates falling on the two-year and five-year bonds but slightly up on the three-year. The two-year rate fell to 3,282% from 5,204%, the five-year rate fell to 4,766% from 6,459% while the three-year rate rose to 3,956% from 3,845%. Once again there was no foreign demand for the Madrid bonds.

The Bono-bund spread it is up to 445 compared to the opening of 436 while the Btp-bund spread rises to 369 points from 359 at the opening and a yield of 5,08%. The euro rose slightly against the dollar to 1,2977 while WTI oil rose to 88,99 (+0,96%) dollars a barrel.

A Business Square, which after the ECB briefly passed into positive territory, Finmeccanica still shines +2% in the wake of a possible Italian consortium on Ansaldo Energia. Yesterday the Minister of Economy, Vittorio Grilli, during a hearing in the Chamber of Deputies, said he was in favor of an Italian solution for Ansaldo Energia by the FSI (Cpp), an alternative to Siemens, headed by the FSI, the operational arm of the CDP . Among the groups that can support the F2i fund in the Ansaldo Energia operation are the Malacalza family and the Camozzi group.

Banks are doing well with Bper +1,79% and Mps +0,48% which is not affected by the judgment of the EBA: it is the only one among the large institutions that has not passed the stress tests but the Monti bonds are already allocated on the way. Intesa +1,05% and Unicredit +0,71%. In light Tod's +2,31% promoted by Cheuvreux to outperform from underperform. Conversely, Ferragamo fell, -1,91%, again downgraded from Cheuvreux to underperform from outperform.

Among the best of the Ftse Mib also Exor +1,21% and Fiat +2,02% while Fiat Industrial yields 2,01% on the rumors about a possible postponement of the merger with the subsidiary CNH.

Le Edison shares savings +2,94% but since 11 September it has gained 30% thanks to the successful outcome of the international arbitrations on the price of gas and the holders of savings shares can hope for a return of the dividend even if the business prospects remain more than uncertain.
