The ECB confirms interest rates at historic lows

The European Central Bank confirms the reference rate on the euro at an all-time low of 0,05%. This was decided by the Eurotower Governing Council at the end of this morning's meeting. The ECB's move was widely expected by the markets.

The rate on marginal refinancing operations remains at 0,30% while the rate on deposits that banks park with the ECB remains at -0,20%.

The last rate cut dates back to September 2014. Today is therefore the seventh consecutive confirmation of current levels, given that since the beginning of 2015 the ECB has changed the frequency of its directorate meetings on rates (which now take place every six weeks instead of every month).

Today's meeting should have had developments in the economic situation and the Greek case as central topics.
