Joe Biden is the new president of the United States

With the overtaking of Trump in Georgia and Pennsylvania, the Democrat Joe Biden conquers the White House: he is the 46th president of the United States, which however the outgoing president does not intend to recognize and indeed threatens legal guerilla warfare - VIDEO.

Joe Biden is the new president of the United States

In a climate of very strong tension, the doors of the White House are wide open to Joe Biden, 78 years old in a few days. Even if the outgoing (and still in office) president Donald Trump does not recognize the defeat and in some states the recount is already being carried out, it is now done for the former deputy of Barack Obama (in both terms, therefore from 2008 to 2016 ), who thus becomes the 46th president of the United States of America, the 16th of the ranks of the Democrats (there were 19 Republicans, including outgoing President Donald Trump). For the fourth time in a century but for the first time since Bill Clinton's presidency, which began in 1992, thus the "rule" of the double mandate is broken: Trump loses his job after only 4 years in Washington, while his predecessors Clinton, Bush and Obama stayed there for 8 years. But Trump does not intend to give up and is preparing a very tough legal warfare against the electoral result nor does he intend to recognize Biden's victory.

In addition to the reconquest of the working-class Midwest, the victory in precarious (and historically right-wing) states was decisive for Biden's success, however obtained only slightly (polls predicted a blue wave ) as the Pennsylvania (the last arrived in chronological order, which sanctioned the triumph) and also the Georgia, where before the counting of the postal vote the outgoing president seemed to have a large advantage. Instead, the dem candidate recovered and overtook his rival also in Arizona and Nevada. The battle in these states has been very tight but at an end Biden, after counting the polls in Pennsylvania, managed to overcome the fateful quota of 273 voters, reaching 270, the quorum necessary to be proclaimed president (net of the appeals that Trump has already announced but which many experts consider unfounded).

“I am honored by the vote of Americans and I will be the president of all. America has spoken and has chosen us: tomorrow will be a better day. Enough harsh tones now. The time has come eradicate the pandemic and defeat racism”commented Biden, who will take office, as tradition dictates and barring twists, next January. His presidency does not promise to be easy: the United States is still in the midst of the health emergency, the economy is struggling to restart and above all the country is still very divided, with strong social tensions that are emerging even in these hours among the supporters of the different factions. Also, while Democrats have captured the House of Representatives, the Senate is very likely to remain with a Republican majority. The new president has already winked at them, suggesting that there will be room for some exponents of the Grand Old Party in the future government team.

After Biden his deputy Kamala Harris also spoke, first female vice president of the United States: “Before he died, civil rights icon John Lewis said: 'Democracy is not a state, it is an act.' He meant that American democracy should not be taken for granted. It is as strong as your will to fight to defend it. The survival of democracy was at stake in this election. But we, the people, know what sacrifices it requires. It's a new day for America."
