Jeff Koons. How much is his work worth?

Jeff Koons. How much is his work worth?

Jeffrey L. Koons (1955) is an American artist recognized for his work in popular culture and his sculptures depicting everyday objects, including balloon animals, stainless steel products with mirrored surfaces. He lives and works in New York City and his hometown of York, Pennsylvania. His works have sold for huge sums, including at least two record auction prices for a work by a living artist, including $91,1 million royalty in May 2019, for his rabbit, purchased by Robert E. Mnuchin according to an article in the New York Times.

On November 12, 2013, Koons' Balloon Dog (Orange) sold at Christie's Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale in New York City for $58,4 million, above its $55 million estimate, becoming the l most expensive work by a living artist sold at auction. The price surpassed Koons' previous record of $33,7 million and the record for most expensive living artist, held by Gerhard Richter, whose 1968 painting, Domplatz, Mailand sold for $37,1 million at Sotheby's on 14 May 2013. Balloon Dog (Orange) was one of the first Balloon Dog works to be manufactured and was acquired by Greenwich collector Peter Brant in the late 90s. Each of the Koons Ballon Dog measures 307,3 × 363,2 × 114,3 cm. and is made of highly polished stainless steel and finished with a translucent coating of blue, magenta, orange, red or yellow.

In May 2019, another of his sculptures, Rabbit (1986), sold at auction for $91,1 million, again breaking the auction record for a work of art by a living artist.

Koons was part of the Post-Pop generation (which also included Cindy Sherman and Richard Prince), who continued to pursue the 60s pop movement's fascination with popular culture and advertising, as well as the social codes enforced by the mainstream media. In the manner of Andy Warhol, in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City, Koons established a large factory-studio, where dozens of employees produced the work he had conceived.

Investment value ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Interesting for the most historicized and large works. Multiples that are very accessible to collectors who nonetheless wish to possess an iconic image of the artist and often sold at estimated prices.
