Ivass: eyes on Unipol-Fonsai and Generali

Salvatore Rossi, president of IVASS, talks about the major Italian insurance groups in his report to the Bank of Italy: “We are closely following the merger between Unipol and Fonsai. The eyes of IVASS on Unipol-Fonsai and on the Generali group. The Institute for Insurance Supervision, as stated by the chairman Salvatore Rossi during his annual report to the Bank of Italy, follows with extreme attention and in close contact with the companies involved and with the other supervisory authorities both the second phase of the integration project between Unipol and Fondiaria Sai the reorganization process of the Generali group.

At the heart of the assessment, for regarding the merger between Unipol and Fonsai, there is "the existence of the prudential requirements for the company that would result from the merger, following the provisions of the law", a reminder that also Carlo Cimbri, CEO of Unipol, agrees: "The attention of authority on this matter seems to me to be in the facts and it seems to me a duty, given the size of the operation”.

As for, instead, the Generali group, IVASS's attention is directed, during this important restructuring process, "to verifying that - explains Salvatore Rossi - the sound and prudent management of the individual companies involved and of the group as a whole is safeguarded".
