Ius alone, is the game reopening? Hunt for 4 votes

After the hunger strike also announced by Minister Delrio, it seems that the debate on the reform of the right of citizenship granted to foreigners born in Italy is reopening, with some glimmer of success: in the Senate there are reportedly 157 favorable parliamentarians out of the 161 necessary for the majority; among these also Verdini.

Ius alone, does the game reopen? After the hunger strike announced by Minister Delrio, it seems that the debate on the reform of the right of citizenship granted to foreigners born in Italy is reopening, with some glimmer of success, unforeseeable until just a few hours ago. The knot is always the Senate, but now there would be 157 senators in favor of the law on citizenship, a number very close to the 161 of the absolute majority and sufficient to pass the measures in the Hall of Palazzo Madama.

The data emerges from the "under track" work carried out by some parliamentarians. “We are not giving up, we are optimistic,” said Pd group leader Luigi Zanda. Even if he immediately slowed down Ap, with the exponent Valentina Castaldini who said: "We will never leave the Chamber and we will not vote for confidence". Castaldini therefore reiterates the line already outlined by the national coordinator of Popular Alternative, Maurizio Lupi: “We will never vote on the trust placed on such a delicate issue and which is not in the government's programme, nor will we leave the Chamber. We want the family to be involved in this process, which must subscribe to the values of the Constitution and expressly request citizenship for the child born in Italy. We want to talk about this, to discuss it in depth in the Senate".

The 157 quota hypothesized by some reconstructions also includes political blocs, including Pd, senators of the Italian Left, the Bersanian-Dalemians of Mdp and the socialists of the Misto group. And then there are the Verdi fans from Ala, who could be decisive: "Everyone says we stink but in the end, Ala's group is the champion of civil rights", he said ironically Riccardo Mazzoni, a Verdi senator who would have found nine to ten votes able to compensate for the losses that will come from Popular Alternative. “The numbers are there,” added Mazzoni.

As he monitors the day-to-day list of potential yeses, Zanda said he did not rule out the possibility of a vote without confidence. How to move then? What are the possible scenarios? Mazzoni once again answers: “Rebounding the law from Montecitorio would mean lengthening the legislature by a month, that of January. It could entice many”. However, making corrections to the text would lead to a more than probable stalemate, given the 8.000 amendments presented by the League. “If we defer citizenship to the next legislature, the law will never be made again”, ruled again the verdini-like senator.
