Italia Independent, the "creature" of Lapo Elkann, cannot find peace: the eyewear company recorded a practically dramatic six-month period, with only 4 million in revenues (-64% compared to the same period of 2018) and above all with 1,77 million of last year's profit which have now become 12 million in losses. The particularly disappointing result brought tensions to the fore in management: indeed, today's news is that the managing director of the listed company, Marco Pietribiasi, resigned with immediate effect, due to strategic differences, after just seven months from the beginning of the mandate. Pietribiasi, appointed last April after the departure of Giovanni Carlino, has also left his role as director of the company.
We are now waiting for next week (precisely for Friday 18 October, barring postponements) the presentation of the new and at this point very important business plan, for a brand born and raised with eyewear, but which aspires – at the moment with great difficulty – to a lifestyle dimension at 360 degrees. Its founder, Lapo Elkann, immediately came to the rescue of Italia Independent, who together with the director Giovanna Dossena made it known that they confirmed "the willingness to support Italia Independent and its team - reads a note - in the relaunch and implementation phase of the new business model, with the aim of building a solid future for the company and the brand”.
A rather uncertain future: between January and June of this year some assets were sold and non-strategic businesses were closed, proceeding with a slimming cure which in the plans of the now ex Ad Pietribiasi should have borne fruit now.
