Italy- Iran: steel, gas, technology. 14 new agreements signed

On the second day of the mission led by Matteo Renzi in Tehran, agreements were signed for amounts ranging from 20 million up to 5 billion dollars and involving companies such as Italtel, the Marcegaglia group and Belleli - The Undersecretary for Economic Development Ivan Scalfarotto: "The the goal is to increase trade between the two countries by 1,5 billion by 2020”.

It's fourteen o'clock bilateral agreements signed between Italian and Iranian companies during the Business Forums between the two countries a Tehran. This is stated in a note released by the Ministry of Economic Development, whose undersecretary Ivan Scalfarotto attended, as a member of the delegation led by Matteo Renzi, the signing of the various Memorandums of Understanding.

The agreements concern various sectors and envisage amounts ranging from 20 million to 5 billion dollars. In the Oil&Gas sector, the MoU signed by theAnim with the Iranian Apec. In the field of steel production technologies there is, however, the contract signed by Danieli mechanical workshops with Bisco Butia Iranian Steel, to build an integrated plant worth 350 million euros.

Italy's Fata and Iran's Bisco Butia have signed a 237 million euro contract for energy plant engineering services, while PLC dimension will supply 30 mobile hospital units for 50 million euros to the Iranian Ministry of Health.

The CEO of Italtel Stefano Pileri has signed an agreement with TCI, which instead concerns the modernization of the telecommunications network in Iran, an agreement which represents, according to Pileri, “a step forward of great importance in the cooperation between Italy and Iran. Telecommunications and Information & Communication Technology represent a powerful accelerator for the development of multiple sectors and of the economy in a broader sense"

In the technological field, the MoU signed by ITWAY and by the Iranian Patsa Holding, while the group Marcegaglia signed an agreement for the strengthening of the collaboration with MSC-Mobarakeh Steel (for a value of 450 million euro). Saipem instead, it closed a Memorandum with Razavi for a development project in the gas sector worth 500 million euros.

The group IMQ and Fahame Engineering have undertaken to carry out training interventions on EU quality requirements and standards for product certifications (in the automotive sector). Italian Fashion System concluded an MoU for industrial and commercial cooperation with the Tehran Garment Union.

An agreement for the development of new smart cities in 6 Iranian locations was then concluded by European Engineering with two Iranian entities in the civil construction sector. Tenova closed a 1 billion euro contract with Mandir for industrial plants dedicated to the production of pellets for the steel industry. Finally the general framework agreement signed by Belleli with Jahanpars for the energy and infrastructure sectors it is worth 5 billion dollars.

The Undersecretary is satisfied with the results of the mission Scalfarotto: "The Italian system as a whole is investing in relations with Iran as a strategic economic partner".

“Until a few years ago – recalled Scalfarotto – Italy was Iran's first commercial partner, with trade exceeding 2011 billion in 7. A study commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Development tells us that in 2020 it will be possible to recover the Italian quota to the average level prior to the sanctions, with an increase of 1,5 billion euros".
