Italy: PMI manufacturing index at a 4-year high

Notable leap for Italy's manufacturing PMI which passes from 53,8 in April to 54,8 in the month of May. According to what was found by Adaci and Markit Economic, the figure clearly exceeds the expectations of the markets which predicted 53,6. It's about the highest level recorded April 2011. It should be noted that the index is above 50 for the fourth consecutive month, the threshold that distinguishes between expansion and contraction of the cycle.

As for the data on the PMI manufacturing index for the Eurozone, Markit signals a slight increase from 52 in April to 52,2 in May. This figure is driven by the performance of Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. Germany is holding back, where the PMI manufacturing index suffered a sharp slowdown in May, going from 52,1 in April to 51,1 in the previous month.
