Italy-China: more can be done in exports. In China today there are 2 Italian companies

China is the leading country among world exporters and Italy, despite having significant shares, is in eighth place in world trade but the interchange between Italy and China does not satisfy and remains below its potential. The state of the art in commercial relations, the problems and prospects for development are at the center of the two-day conference promoted by the University of Macerata and the Confucius Institute, which has the theme "Law and business: Italy and China compared ” with the dual objective of listening to the direct experience of Italian companies already operating in China and assessing the weight of Chinese laws in the slowdown of trade.

Currently Italy is China's 15th trading partner and trade between the two countries is growing, but our imports from China are faster than our exports and increase the deficit of our trade balance. We are clearly below potential, despite the fact that Italian companies have perfectly understood that if they want to enter the Chinese market they must leverage the quality of Made in Italy and despite having excellent opportunities in mechanics, in products for the home and for the person, in 'agromechanics.

According to the most recent data, there are about 2 Italian companies that have made direct investments in China with a turnover of 5 billion euros and a total of over 60 jobs. On the other hand, Chinese investments in Italy are still marginal, even if growing: currently, of the 120 Chinese companies authorized to operate in Italy, 59 are actually active (2010 data).

The conference aims to explore the winning strategies of our companies but also the regulatory difficulties which in China often represent a still very important obstacle. The summary of the reports of the Macerata conference will be published in the Export section of FIRSTonline.
