Italy goodbye or goodbye? Why do young people leave? The investigation by the North East-Veneto Region Foundation begins

They are two million young people which in the last ten years have decided to leave Italy. Net of the number of returnees, this is a big loss for the country.
From these foundations the research of the Northeast Foundation together with Veneto region is will investigate the youth diaspora.

600 billion of loss of human capital

According to the Foundation's initial estimates, in terms of human capital, the loss is around 600 billion euros, if both family expenses from conception to expatriation and public expenses in education and assistance (from health care to transport at subsidized costs) are taken into account. A'human hemorrhage, social and economic, which makes the sustainability of the Italian public debt more shaky. The investigation was strongly desired by the Veneto Regionwith the President Luca Zaia, who publicly asked for empirical evidence of the real motivations that push so many young Italians to leave.

Understand the reasons for abandonment

The research of the North East Foundation will be one double opinion poll: listen to young expatriate compatriots and those who live in the country. The two distinct investigations will have parts that will overlap.

We will try to understand what drives young people to leave the country. Whether only higher pay is to blame or there are other factors. The state of young people abroad will be analyzed and what they would be willing to evaluate in order to return. Young people who have remained in the area will also be evaluated, analyzing their dreams and working conditions. The research will not be limited to surveys, but will go deeper into the main issues that will emerge: focus groups will be launched with both targeted and detailed interviews. There age range taken into consideration is the one between 18-34 years old.
