Italferr, the engineering company of the Ferrovie dello Stato Group Italian, signed with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) the contract for the extension of the preliminary and detailed design of the railway that will connect the port of Jeddah, on the Red Sea, to Al Jubail, on the Arabian Sea.
The project, which covers approximately 1300 kilometers of line who will cross theSaudi Arabia in its entire width, joining the two seas that surround the Arabian Peninsula, will commit Italferr for 20 months starting from August 2015. Once electrified, the line will allow passenger trains speeds up to 350 kilometers per hour.
Also included in the project are the stations, depots and maintenance centers. Italferr has been present in Saudi Arabia since 2013 as a designer for the development of the preliminary and detailed design of the connection between the cities of Jeddah and the capital Riyadh, project known as the “Saudi Landbridge Railway Project”.
