The 6 resigning directors of Italy Airways they return to the charge. Lelio Fornabaio, Alessandra Fratini, Simonetta Giordani, Cristina Girelli, Silvio Martuccelli and Angelo Piazza wrote to the new Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, to accept their resignation from the airline board at the heart of the process sale by the sole shareholder, the Mef.

In the letter they write that “on 29 March they presented theirs resignation from office” to the previous Executive by virtue of “delle severe difficulties and severe tensions arisen in the context of corporate governance, which made it difficult to carry out the same task peacefully". 

But "having not been replaced, they remained in office, continuing in any case with the utmost commitment in an effort to protect the interests of the company and the shareholder", i.e. the MEF. But now "they consider it indispensable and urgent that the shareholder himself proceeds with the acceptance of his resignation, and with the replacement".

The clash with Altavilla

In contrast to the president Alfredo Altavilla, for months now, the 6 had presented their resignations last March to Draghi government but they had never been accepted to ensure continuity in management. The clash with the president then reached its peak in recent weeks when in two sessions of Cda of the airline i 6 members they voted for reset all proxies operational of the president, including that on privatization of the company. The revocation was contested by trade union council of the company and, of course, by the same Altavilla who filed a civil suit both against Ita and against the 6 directors, as well as against the CEO Fabio Lazzerini.

Ita towards two new Boards

In the meantime, the road that will lead to the privatization of Ita Airways, the company born from the ashes of Alitalia, also in view of the shareholders' meeting called for the8th November (on first call) and the11th November (in second). As reported by the newspaper La Repubblica, there are two new points on the board of directors: the revocation of Altavilla as president and the "numerical composition of the board" (the government would like to bring it to 5 from the current 9). A new arrangement that could also lead to the complete elimination of the board currently in office. Hence the request of the 6 resigners.

In parallel. the disbursement of 400 million euro is expected by the end of November recapitalization of 1,2 billion approved by Brussels, which will have to be followed by another 250 million in 2023.

Sale of Ita Airways: the stalemate continues
