Active record for the Italian trade balance in March, which recorded a positive balance of 2,1 billion euros, the highest since July 2007, compared with a deficit of 1,113 billion in February. The data was disclosed by Istat, which also specified that in the first three months of the year the deficit amounted to 3,4 billion euros, a "significant improvement" compared to the -13 billion of the previous year. Net of energy products, the balance is positive for 7,6 billion in March and 14 billion in the first quarter.
Exports increased by 1,7% in March economic situation, driven by sales to non-EU markets (+4,1%). Land imports fell by 1,9%, with reductions in purchases from both EU (-2,2%) and non-EU (-1,6%) markets. The cyclical growth of exports is more sustained for energy products (+15%) and capital goods (+1,8%). On the import side, there was a decrease for all groupings, more marked for capital goods (-4,4%).
