Istat: more and more young people want to become independent, but Welfare is needed to help them

Not all kids are big babies - The number of young people who want to leave home is increasing, but a "youth" welfare policy would speed up the process - Istat says so

Istat: more and more young people want to become independent, but Welfare is needed to help them

Let's debunk a commonplace: our young people may seem like that, but they're not big babies. They stay at home because in Italy there is no welfare structure to help them become independent, but despite the difficulties many young people want, plan and hope to go home as soon as possible.

In fact, many young people want to leave the family home, but often they are unable to find either a home or a job.
The "parent" factor is certainly strong, but also reassuring: in fact, the parents of the beautiful country invest and help their children financially.

A Multipurpose Istat survey 2003-2009, the percentage of young people who "I'm fine like this, I keep my independence", dropped from 40,1% to 31,4%; while 40,2% have economic difficulties that "force" them home.

The most surprising fact, however, is the overtaking of young people from the South compared to those from the North. The boys between 25 and 34 years of the South who have stayed at home, has dropped to a percentage of less than 40%, while the young people of the North who stay at home, is more than 50%.

So the problem is not with young people. The problem is at a political and social level. We need an improvement in current youth policies, so that young people will finally be able to enter society, they will be able to dream of a home, a family, have children and above all invest in their children's future, so as to be competitive also on an international level. The dream of all of us young people today. Of course, in times of crisis it is not easy.
