Weak data on Italian payrolls. According to the wage index calculated by Istat, in August the change was zero compared to the previous month, while on an annual basis there was an increase of 1,7%. As for the average for the first eight months of the year, the increase was 1,9% compared to the same period in 2010.
In detail, in August wages showed a growth trend of 2% for employees in the private sector and 0,6% for those in the public administration. The sectors that have shown the most marked improvement are the military and defense (+3,7%), law enforcement (+3,5%) and firefighters (+3,1%). On the other hand, no trend variations for those who work in ministries, schools, health, regions and local autonomies.
At the end of August there were 33,1% of employees awaiting contract renewal. On average, the waiting period is 20,4 months.
