The average income of Italians in 2011, according to Istat data, was just under 18 euros, fee 17.979 euros. However, the differences between the Italian macro-regions are very strong: the disposable income per inhabitant, in fact, reaches 20.800 euros both in the North-West and in the North-East and 19.300 euros in the Centre, to then sink to 13.400 in Southern Italy, a figure, the latter, 25,5% lower than the national average.
The best economic treatments are those in the province of Bolzano, with average incomes above 22.800 euros. The worst region, however, is Campania, at an altitude of 12.500 euros.
At current prices, national income growth was 2,1% over the previous year. The sharpest increase was recorded in the North-East (+2,7%), closely followed by the North-West (+2,5%). The data of Central (+1,5%) and Southern Italy (+1,6%) are lower than the national average. There the region that paid the most for the crisis was Liguria, with incomes down by 2,9%. The greatest growths in the province of Bolzano and in Veneto.
The majority of household incomes come from dependent work (with an incidence on disposable income that varies between 51% and 67%, depending on the region). Also in this case the most consistent increase was recorded in the North-East (+3,1%).
Le current taxes paid by households increased by 0,6% at the national level, while their incidence on gross disposable income decreased by 0,2%, passing from 14,9% to 14,7%. The highest values are recorded in the north, and especially in Lombardy. The lowest incidence, however, is that of Basilicata (11,7%) and Calabria (11,3%).
