Industrial production falls in Italy. According to data released by Istat, in the month of July the relative index recorded a contraction of 1% compared to the month of June and of 1,8% in the annual comparison (corrected for the calendar).
The seasonally adjusted index for July shows negative cyclical variations in all the main sectors. The strongest variations are those recorded between consumer goods (-2,4%) and capital goods (-2,1%). The indices corrected for calendar effects recorded tendential decreases especially in the energy sector (-3,9%) and intermediate goods (-1,9%).
Among the sectors of economic activity, the sectors that record the greatest trend growth are those of the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products, electro-medical devices, measuring devices and watches (+4,8%), the production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+3,0%) and the manufacture of means of transport (+2,9%). The most consistent declines, on the other hand, are those in the manufacture of electrical equipment and non-electrical household appliances (-13,9%), in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-10,1%) and in mining ( -7,8%).
