Istat, industrial production -4,1% in November

In November, the production of Italian industry remained negative, at its lowest level since 2009 – The seasonally adjusted data shows a slight increase: +0,3% compared to October 2011 – In the first eleven months of 2011, the second sector remained virtually unchanged (+0,1% compared to the same period of 2010).

It is not a rosy period for the Italian industry. In November 2011, the seasonally adjusted index of industrial production recorded a decrease of 4,1% compared to the same period of the previous year. It remains stable on a monthly basis, while, if corrected for calendar effects, the index marks a +0,3% compared October 2011. This was announced this morning by Istat underlining that it is the lowest figure since December 2009.

In 2011 the Italian industry remained practically immobile. In the first eleven months of 2011 the average of the seasonally adjusted index marks a +0,1% compared to the same period of 2010.

In November 2011, the indexes corrected for calendar effects recorded a downward trend for all groupings: -4,6% for intermediate goods, -4,5% for instrumental goods, -4,4% for energy and -3,1% for consumer goods. Again on an annual basis, the only growing industry sectors are mining (+12,4%), manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+2,7%) and machinery manufacturing nec ( +2,1%).

Among the sectors in decline, those that show the largest trend decreases in November are the manufacture of electrical equipment and non-electrical household appliances (-13,6%) and the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products, electromedical equipment , measuring devices and watches (-12,8%).
