Istat: January industrial production prices -0,4% month, +0,7% year

The prices of products sold on the domestic market decreased by 0,5% compared to December and increased by 0,8% on a year-on-year basis.

In January the industrial producer price index fell by 0,4% compared to the previous month, but at the same time recorded an increase of 0,7% compared to January 2012. This was communicated by Istat, specifying that the prices of the products sold on the internal market they decreased by 0,5% compared to December and increased by 0,8% on a year-on-year basis. Net of the energy sector, there was no variation in terms of the economic situation and an increase of 1% on a trend basis. 

The prices of the goods sold on the foreign market mark an increase of 0,2% on a month (with growth of 0,1% for the euro area and 0,2% for the non-euro area) and 0,3% on an annual basis (zero for the euro area and +0,4% for the non-euro area).

The greatest contribution to the trend growth in the prices of goods sold on the domestic market came from non-durable consumer goods (0,7 percentage points). On the foreign market, the most significant contributions come from capital goods for the euro area and come on intermediate goods for the non-euro area (0,3 and 0,2 percentage points respectively). 

The sector of economic activity for which the trend of growth in prices is most marked is that of food, beverage and tobacco industries, with an increase of 4,4% on the domestic market and 1,5% on the foreign one.
