Istat: industrial production prices -1,4% year on year

According to data released by Istat, in May the industrial production price index marked a drop of 0,1% compared to April and 1,4% on an annual basis – The domestic market weighs decline in the prices of the energy sector.

The production prices of industrial products are slowing down. In May, in fact, the relative index elaborated by Istat marked a decrease of 0,1% compared to April and of 1,4% on an annual basis. The price trend of products sold on the domestic market was in line: -0,1% compared to April and -1,7% on a trend basis. Net of the energy sector, there was a decrease of 0,1% on the previous month and no trend variation.

As regards, however, goods sold on the foreign market, their prices remained stationary compared to the previous month (with a drop of 0,2% for the euro area and a positive change of 0,1% for the area non-euro), while they recorded a decrease of 0,6% on an annual basis (-0,7% for the euro area and -0,3% for the non-euro area). 

As far as the domestic market is concerned, the energy sector weighs particularly heavily on the annual decline (-1,5 percentage points), while on the foreign market the largest contributions to the decrease derive from intermediate goods for the euro area (-0,6 percentage points ) and capital goods for the non-euro area (-0,2 percentage points).
