The average tax rate in Italy is still growing. This was communicated by Istat, which reveals how in the second quarter the tax burden reached 43,8% of GDP, an increase both on an annual basis (42,5%) and in comparison with the first quarter, when it stopped to 39,1%. In the first six months of the year, the tax burden stood at 41,5%, marking growth on a trend and cyclical basis.
In the same period, the cumulative deficit/GDP ratio, still recorded by Istat, rose to 4,1%, down by 0,3% on an annual basis. Considering the second quarter alone, the ratio was 1%, up 1,2% on an annual basis. The data in question, specifies Istat, is not valid for the purposes of the Maastricht Notification due to the different treatment of swap transactions.
