Istat: IV quarter GDP +0,1%, growing again after two years

According to Istat data, the Italian GDP returned to growth on a cyclical basis after more than two years in the fourth quarter of 2013: +0,1% - On an annual basis recorded a decrease of 0,9% - In 2013 GDP decreased by 1,8% over the previous year.

Istat: IV quarter GDP +0,1%, growing again after two years

The Italian GDP is growing again after more than two years. This was communicated by Istat: in the fourth quarter of 2013, gross domestic product, adjusted for calendar effects and seasonally adjusted, fell by 0,9% on an annual basis, but recorded a growth of 0,1% compared to the quarter previous year, the first after nine consecutive negative quarters. The trend figure is lower than the expectations of analysts, who predicted an annual decline of 0,8%.

In the fourth quarter, gross fixed investments increased by 0,9% compared to the previous quarter, while national final consumption remained unchanged. Imports increased by 0,2% and exports by 1,2%.

Looking at the whole of 2013, GDP corrected for calendar effects experienced a drop of 1,8%. The variation acquired for 2014, on the other hand, is equal to +0,1%.

Also Istat communicated that, in the fourth quarter of 2013, the GDP of the Eurozone increased by 0,3% compared to the previous quarter and by 0,5% on an annual basis. In cyclical terms, GDP increased by 0,7% in the United Kingdom, by 0,6% in the United States, by 0,4% in Germany and by 0,3% in France. In trend terms, there was an increase of 2,8% in the United Kingdom, 2,5% in the United States, 1,4% in Germany and 0,8% in France.
