Prospects still negative for the Italian economy: according to the latest Istat estimates, in 2013 GDP will drop by 1,8%, while the recovery will take place in 2014 with GDP increasing, in real terms, by 0,7% . Still negative forecasts also for the labor market: the unemployment rate, which grew rapidly in the first part of the year, will reach 12,1% in 2013.
In 2014, while stabilising, the unemployment rate will continue to increase "because of the delay with which the labor market follows the evolution of the economy". Household spending is also at a peak, which in 2013, again according to Istat, will register a contraction of 2,4%. Despite the persistence of difficulties on the labor market and the weakness of nominal incomes, in 2014, consumer spending is expected to grow moderately (+0,2%).
