Istat: 100 young employed people lost in one year

In December, the general unemployment rate stood at 12,7%, recording a decrease of 0,1% compared to November and an increase of 1,2% on an annual basis - Among young people, the figure dropped to 41,6, 0,1%, down 4,2 percentage points from November, but still growing year-on-year (+XNUMX points).

The percentages drop, but the general situation does not improve: in just one year, Italy has lost 100 employed young people. According to the provisional estimates released this morning by Istat on the world of work, in December the general unemployment rate stood at 12,7%, recording a decrease of 0,1% compared to November and an increase of 1,2% on an annual basis. The number of unemployed, equal to 3, fell by 229% in quarterly terms (-1), but increased by 32% on a trend basis (+10).

Still in December, there were 22 employed persons, down by 270% on the previous month (-0,1) and by 25% on an annual basis (-1,9). The employment rate, equal to 424%, decreased by 55,3 percentage points in economic terms and by 0,1 points compared to twelve months earlier.

As for the rate youth unemployment (15-24 year olds), fell to 41,6%, down 0,1 percentage points from November, but still growing year-on-year (+4,2 points). There are 15 unemployed between 24 and 671 years of age and their incidence on the population in this age group is 11,2%, up by 0,1 percentage points compared to the previous month and by 0,8 points on annual basis.

In December, 943 young people were employed, an increase of 0,7% compared to the previous month (+7) but a decrease of 9,6% on an annual basis (-100). The youth employment rate, equal to 15,7%, grew by 0,1 percentage points compared to the previous month but decreased by 1,6 points over twelve months. 

The number of inactive young people is equal to 4 million 388 thousand, a decrease of 0,3% in comparison with the economic situation (-13 thousand) but an increase of 0,5% on an annual basis (+23 thousand). The inactivity rate of young people between the ages of 15 and 24, equal to 73,1%, dropped by 0,2 percentage points in the last month but rose by 0,7 points over twelve months.
