Istat: trade balance improves, +794 million in September

According to the Statistical Institute, in September the Italian trade balance recorded a positive balance of 794 million, 131 million more than the same month in 2012 - Compared to August, both flows increased - On an annual basis, exports grew by 2%, imports -0,1%.

The Italian trade balance improves. In fact, according to what Istat states, in the month of September the balance recorded in trade with foreign countries amounted to 794 million, up by 131 million compared to the same month in 2012. Assets net of energy instead it stood at 4,9 billion.

Compared to the month of August in September there was an increase in both exports (+0,6%) and imports (+1,9%). Exports are mainly driven by trade with non-EU countries, up by 1,3%. 

On an annual basis, exports experienced an increase of 2%, thanks to the growth in volumes. Imports, on the other hand, show a slight decrease of 0,1% due, according to the Istat press release, to "an opposite dynamic of volumes (+3,8%) and average unit values ​​(-3,8%) ”.

In the first nine months of the year, the overall trade surplus reached 19,6 billion and, net of energy products, amounted to 60,8 billion. In this period, both flows recorded a decrease on an annual basis: exports were very limited (-0,3%), imports were decidedly more marked (-6,1%)”.
