Istat: fewer companies, but added value grows (+13,8%)

The data from the Statistical Institute refer to 2010 – Firms employ around 16,7 million people and 94,9% are micro-enterprises – Employees and the number of enterprises are down, but the production of added value is increasing (+13,8, XNUMX%).

Istat has released data for 2010 on industry and market services. According to the statistical institute, the companies active in the sector, up to the whole of 2010, they are 4.372.143 and employ approximately 16,7 million workers, of which 11,2 million are employees. The average size of the companies is confirmed as rather limited, standing at 3,8 employees each.

Il added value achieved by Italian companies is equal to a total of 708 billion euro, an average of 42,4 thousand euros per employee while the cost of labor per employee is 34 thousand euros and his gross salary amounts to 24,4 thousand euros. The incidence of gross profits on added value is 26,6%.

In comparison with 2009, according to Istat, one is recorded contraction in the number of companies (-0,3%) and employees (-1,6%) and a strong increase in added value (+12,3%).

The vast majority of active businesses 94,9% is represented by micro-enterprises (that is, with fewer than 10 employees), which also employ 47,8% of the employees and produce 31,1% of the added value. On the other hand, there are 3.495 large companies (those with at least 250 employees), in which 19,0% of the employees and 31,9% of the added value are concentrated. 

Market services continue to represent the quantitatively most important sector of our economy. In fact, 76,0% of companies, 63,3% of employees and 56,9% of the contribution to the creation of added value belong to it.

The numbers of industry in the strict sense are much lower: 10,1% of companies, 25,8% of employees and 34,6% of added value. On the other hand, 13,9% of companies, 10,9% of employees and 8,5% of added value are concentrated in construction.

Employees work an average of 1.629 hours per year, with higher levels especially in construction and industry. Expenditure on gross fixed investments by companies in 2010 grew by 19,4% compared to the previous year, settling at around 138 billion euro.
