Istat: inflation rises to 2,8% in August, the highest since 2008

The consumer price index increased by 0,3% on a monthly basis – Inflation acquired for 2011 at 2,6% – The increase is driven by fuels (+15,5%) and transport services (+5,7 %). In the eurozone, however, inflation remains stable at 2,5%, according to Eurostat flah data.

Istat: inflation rises to 2,8% in August, the highest since 2008

Inflation flares up in August. Prices rose by 2,8%, growing further compared to already alarming figure for July (+2,7%). For the consumer price index, the increase on a monthly basis is 0,3%. The inflation acquired for 2011 is instead 2,6%.

These are the data contained in the provisional estimate on consumer prices published today by Istat. According to the Statistical Institute, the negative impact on the price trend was above all unregulated energy goods (such as fuel) and transport services, which recorded an increase of 15,5 and 5,7% respectively every year. August is the biggest rise in three years now. In the midst of the crisis, in October 2008, inflation had reached 3,5%.

In the Eurozone, according to the latest Eurostat flash estimate, inflation in August remained stable at 2,5% as in the previous month.
