According to Istat, on average in 2012 hourly contractual wages in 2012 are increased by 1,5% over the previous year, the lowest average annual growth since 1983. A growth, above all, that does not keep up with inflation, which grew by 3%.
The growth of prices, therefore, was double that of wages. The gap of 1,5 percentage points represents the largest gap between the two indicators.
Hourly contractual wages increased by 0,1% in December. on a monthly basis and by 1,7% on an annual basis. "With reference to the main macro-sectors - reads the note from the Institute of Statistics - in December the contractual hourly wages recorded a trend increase of 2,2% for employees in the private sector and a null variation for those of the public administration".
Another problematic factor is that of contract renewals: the share of employees awaiting renewal represents, in fact, the 28,4% of the total, and 6,8% in the private sector. The wait for renewal for workers with expired contracts is, on average, 36,7 months, more than 3 years.
